About Our Work

I build wood and leather goods one piece at a time in my garage shop in Pinckney, Michigan. Serving boards, valet trays, journal covers, and the small stuff that goes on your counter and actually gets used.

We work in walnut, cherry, and maple because they are beautiful woods that hold up over time. I finish it with pure tung oil and beeswax, nothing synthetic. The leather comes from Horween in Chicago and family-run tanneries in Tuscany that still tan with tree bark. I cut it and finish every edge by hand.

Serving boards and leather goods can be personalized with a name, date, or monogram on my laser engraver. Reach out before you order.

The Pap Shack Story

My dad was a woodworker. I grew up watching him work, and like most kids I didn't appreciate what I was seeing. He filled our home with things you cannot buy off a shelf. I understand now what that took.

After he passed, I built my own shop. Woodworking is how I stay connected to him. Every board I mill, I'm back in his basement.

My kids call me Pap. That's where the name comes from. I'm making things my own family will use, keep, and pass down. That was always the idea.

The leather I picked up on my own. Different material, same mindset.

The goal hasn't changed. Make something worth using and worth keeping.
